The Challenges
Union Institute & University (UI&U) was using Microsoft ADFS which was implemented on some platforms. The institution had implemented an individual password manager for a few users but most of the users don’t have access to this feature. There was no smooth transition between various apps utilized by UI&U such as AEFIS, Slate, Jenzabar and D2L. Better integration would enable students to easily access all important systems seamlessly without the need to log in more than once.
UI&U was looking to eliminate student frustration and to be more self-serving for the student. Password resets were frequent and time-consuming for both IT and students. While the institution had a third-party staff that assisted in fielding the requests, due to FERPA requirements, the outside source didn’t have access to all the applications needed to address students’ needs. Those requests that third-party cannot resolve get escalated but students were forced to wait until UI&U staff could attend to the situation during regular business hours.
Manually provisioning users from source of truth to target applications was another challenge. The process was erroneous and time-consuming. Moreover, too much custom coding was required to provision a user.
The Solution
QuickLaunch provided an all-in-one identity and access management solution to manage user identities and streamline access control across the institution. QuickLaunch Single Sign-On will replace ADFS and will provide one-click secure access to all of their apps. The users (students, staff and faculty) will be able to access cloud applications using a single set of credentials.

User Self-Registration will ensure smoother onboarding for first-time users while eliminating the practice of sending default user credentials via email or through the mail. First-time users will set up a security profile and will receive notifications via the email address in their profile.
Automated provisioning will replace the powershell scripts used by Union Institute & University to manually provision the users joining the institution.
